Loss of a good friend & Chairman.
At our last meeting, the news of Doug's sudden death the previous evening, was met with utter disbelief and dismay. Disbelief because many of those present had spent time with Doug only a few days before at the Church Stretton Exhibition when he appeared to be in good spirits and as enthusiastic as ever. Dismay because he was not only much admired as an ambassador for the hobby of railway modelling but also as an individual. His enthusiasm seemed boundless, his research unbelievably thorough and he was an extremely competent modeller. More importantly though, he was good company, non-judgemental, the perfect diplomat and gentleman – all of which made him perfect for the role of the Association’s Chairman.
